Why holistic?
Conventionally, allergies and skin conditions can be hard to treat for vets, many conditions become chronic and will require the use of steroids or other immunosuppressants, which many animals don’t respond too, or in other cases, stop responding after long-term use. Holistic medicine offers a multi-model approach which can tackle the cause of the reaction, as well as treating the symptoms such as itchiness and discomfort.
Dealing with the underlying causes of disease
Holistic medicine looks at what’s going wrong in the skin. For example, too much blood flow to the skin can be an indication of toxin build up (called Damp-Heat in Chinese medicine), or if the skin is dull and flakey, this could indicate insufficient blood to the area. The herbal medicines used to treat skin conditions are as diverse as the many causes there can be. Polar to conventional medicine, holistic medicines goal is to find the root cause in order to treat the condition from the inside out with lasting results.
What methods can be used?
Each case is unique, so each patient will have a bespoke treatment plan. Our treatments generally include a combination of diet planning, acupuncture and herbal therapy.
